Well,therearealotofdifferentviewsonthis,butImustsayIdon’tthinkthere’sverymuchhardevidencethateducationalstandardsareanyworsetodaythaninthepast.Italldepends,ofcourse,onwhatyoumeasureandhowyoumeasureit,butIthinkitisprobablywrongtoimaginethattherewassomegoldenageinthepastwheneverythingwasperfect.Ofcourseitmaysurprisesomepeoplethattherehasnotbeenanobviousanddramaticincreaseinthestandardofeducation,giventhevastamountsofmoneyspentinthisareabysuccessivegovernmentsinrecentyears.Butunfortunately,mostimprovementsineducationareintangible.
6.GiveStudentsTimetoGrow
Withexaminationsdrawingnear,theburdenonmiddleschoolstudentsisbecomingheavierandheavier.Theyhavemorehomeworkthaneverbefore,andlesstimeforleisure,restandsleep.
Becauseoftheover-load,moststudents’healthsuffersandmanybecomenearsighted.AninvestigationmadeinaHonghumiddleschoolshowsthat:comparedwith1985,thenumberofnearsightedstudentshaveincreasedby25-30percentandalargerproportionofstudentscomplainofpoorhealth.
